The first step in the program is to assess the speaker’s speech and determine what particular patterns are present and how are they impacting on the overall speech intelligibility. Correcting these patterns is contingent on not only the therapist, but the client as well. Listening to yourself and being able to hear the difference between your current speech and the targeted sounds, is integral in changing these habits. Practice is an important part of the therapeutic process and is necessary in order to see change over time. The therapist employs a number of methods, some of which are: the use of tape recordings, worksheets on targeted sounds, and conversational practice. Communication is also nonverbal, such as eye contact, posture, hand gestures, etc, and therefore these are addressed as well. A minimum of 8-10 sessions is recommended to see a significant difference however, every individual case is different. Very-Well Said, LLC considers the busy schedule of their clients and offers services in the comfort of your office or via Skype.
